Seth Thomas Clock Movement Factory
A Town built by Time - Thomaston, Connecticut
Seth Thomas established his own clockmaking business in Plymouth Hollow, Connecticut, in 1813, after leaving his partnership with fellow clockmakers Eli Terry and Silas Hoadley. As his business prospered, Thomas expanded his manufacturing operations, including construction of a cotton mill in 1834 that was later enlarged and converted into the company's movement shop. The Seth Thomas Clock Company was formally incorporated in 1853 and grew to become one of America's best-known clock manufacturers. In 1875, Plymouth Hollow was incorporated as the town of Thomaston, honoring the clockmaker whose company had shaped the community for generations.
