1927 picnic on 'The Farm'
This painting was inspired by a photo taken on the family farm in the Northwest hills of CT. The image shows a time when lawns were not mowed, and picnics always included linen table cloths, and dinner ware complete with tea cups.
Pictured are 3 of 6 Swedish brothers, that had recently immigrated to the US. On the left is Henning with his wife Rosa. The child on the right is Kenneth, alongside his father Victor, and the young adult in the middle is Albin. The image is photographed by Victor's wife Esther. The scene although a beautiful image capturing the feel of a different time in our history is bittersweet, as the picnic was a farewell for Albin. He planned to return to Sweden immediately following this event as he was ill and would return to his homeland, where he passed away shortly after his arrival. Not in the picture are brothers Alfred, Gunnar, and Sigurd. The young boy, Kenneth, in the painting is my fathers brother, he passed at the age of 98 on January 26, 2022.
This collection will be based on images from the early 1900's depicting the rural life of an immigrant family in the CT Northwest Hills.
